Attitude of Gratitude #25

Today I am grateful for:

Black Friday
I hate the idea of Black Friday. It just seems so commercial and greedy and everything to me. Great deals, yes. Smart to shop those deals? Yes. But I think it shows the worst in people. That being said I'm also grateful for it. This year's Black Friday at Deseret Book was fun and I wasn't even there in the morning for it. We were busy all day which gives me hope for the rest of the season. We were worried because it wasn't picking up at all like it used to. Today we ended with a $25,000 day which is huge for my little store. Yay!

Verizon
For being a kick-ass cell phone company. For giving my mom a good deal on two new phones today. For making me new phone hungry (is that the single guy's version of baby hungry?) today (Ughhh! I so want the Droid Razr and whatever that one was called that plays music amazingly). They're the only ones I've ever used and I've never had a single issue with them. It's been six years! Woot!
Ginger Snaps
Karly's mom brought these in to work today and I ate a bunch of them and could not stop. Oh how I love you but hate you at the same time!

Attitude of Gratitude #6

Today I'm grateful for:

 Charmed
I've said it before, and I will say it again: I love Charmed! Don't judge. It's a great show, and I've watched the whole series several times. I used to be able to tell you exactly what season a given episode was from and the back story to how the characters got to where they were. Tonight I had the urge to watch it again and started on the Fourth Season which, in my opinion, is where the series gets really good. And, hey, ya can't really go wrong with three women who kick ass, wear skimpy clothes, and are also funny (at times).

 Chocolate Chip Cookies
It's a Sunday tradition that I make chocolate chip cookies, and I do it pretty much every week. No matter how many times I make them I never tire of the deliciousness.

Sunday Naps
I'll admit it: I'm spoiled. I usually take at least an hour nap every Sunday. My body is so attuned to it now that it's impossible to not do it now. And I have some pretty dang weird dreams when I nap. Today was no exception in that area. Sometimes they're weird enough I question my sanity and vow never to take a nap again, but that never works. So I will just continue with my Sunday nap ritual and worry about my sanity later.

No Bake Disaster

So I've been craving No Bake Cookies for a few weeks now. My parents went out of town so I had the whole house to myself last night, so I decided to finally break down and make some delicious No Bake Cookies.

I could just taste the gooey, chocolaty, scrumptious morsels as I poured in all the ingredients and started up the stove. I stirred with my mouth watering for some sugar. The recipe I had said to boil it for THREE minutes. I thought to myself "Self, that's a really, really long time to make this stuff boil, but who are we to judge. It HAS been a while since you made these cookies. Maybe it really is three minutes." Part of me wanted to question that but I decided "What harm could it do to boil it for three minutes?"

By the time I dumped the chocolate mixture in with the oats it was an airy, bubbly mass that had made this weird mucus at the bottom of the pot. I was certain my task had failed but I had to see it through to the end.

It looked all right at first, and I thought "Hey, maybe I didn't fail after all."

Then I started scooping it out onto the tin foil. Yeah. It was cooling and beginning to take on a very crumbly, dry, nasty texture. I tasted it. It tasted decent and I was still trying to satisfy a craving, so I decided to eat one with a cup of milk to damp down the dryness. As I was doing so the thought occurred to me:

If I'm going to get fat on cookies it had better be a dang good cookie.

So I took the dried up cookies, all that wasted sugar, and dumped it in the garbage. It was a sad ending to my story but I decided that my body would thank me for it later.
