Attitude of Gratitude #28

Oil Changes
Phoebe feels better now. Today she got an oil change and her registration has been updated with new plates and everything. She's like a new car and her daddy has been spoiling her a lot lately.

Haircuts
Always so refreshing to get a new haircut. I'm back to my natural dark hair and it shocks me every time I look in the mirror. I didn't realize how much I'd gotten used to the lighter hair.

Catching up with Friends
I was really productive today. One of the good things about today was going to lunch with one of my best friends, Mike. This is really the latest picture of him and me at his wedding earlier this year. It was good to catch up with him even if it was just for an hour or so.

Rockin' the Mo'

Hey, kids, so back in June-ish/end of May-ish I went to my friend Kym with an odd request. She has been cutting my hair for a couple years now. Lately I've been doing a lot more wild and crazy things with my hair. This time I requested to get a European mohawk which is a faux hawk, essentially, that extends to the back of the head/top of the neck. I did a more reserved version of it and got some interesting reactions especially at work.

Well, this time around I have done it again only a little more drastic. Complete with a little bit of caramel-colored blonde on the top just to add some spice to the already-spicy look. Personally, I love it. Kym said she's always excited to see what I will come up with because I'm a little more adventurous. Tessa, a coworker friend of mine, said today: You always look different every time I see you. I don't know if she meant that as a compliment, but I will take it as one.

Randomosity

It has been awhile since I've blogged, so here is an update on my life:

I went on a random trip to Utah this weekend and it was amazing. It was really nice to get out of town and not be in the same mundane routine.

I'm reading The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown. So far, so good. I'm reading them backwards because I've never read his other two books, but now I really want to. You should see a review of this book soon enough although it's taken me awhile to get through for some reason.

The revision/rewriting process of my novel Befall is still very frustrating and still at a complete standstill. However, I do have ideas and I'm going to see if they work. Time to just bite the bullet and just write no matter what.

Operation: Fabio is coming to an end. The longer hair has been fun, but I think I am going to cut it short again. This time, however, I may try something a little different. My friend, Kym, will be able to tell me if I can pull it off. I was going to see if I could find a picture of it, but I think I will just keep it under wraps for now. My next haircut appointment is the beginning of June.

I am seriously considering going back to school now. This means I have to study for the GRE and then take the dreaded test and ace it and then find a school that will take me. This also means more debt and whatnot, but it also means my brain won't be turning into mush anymore. I'm very excited for the opportunities this presents for me, and I hope I can hack it. As far as schools are concerned, Utah would be great, but I would like to go somewhere different and new, get involved in a different place culturally. Ideal spots would be California (very expensive, but the beach is right there!), Denver (random, but I hear it is a great place), Seattle, somewhere on the east coast like Virginia or North Carolina, or head south to Florida again. As you can see, I have not narrowed it down very well, but I have plenty of time for that.

Still obsessed with Zumba. It really is a great workout. My kettlebell class is cancelled for the summer which is a huge bummer. I also want to see about certifying to be a Zumba instructor and/or a kettlebell instructor.

That's all I can think of for now which is probably a good thing because I need to go to work.

Peace out, ya'all!

Operation: Fabio Week 6

Above: A back view. Sorry for the odd angle. I had a hard time figuring out how to get a good image of the back of my head.

It has been awhile since I've mention this. I realize that watching hair grow is akin to watching paint dry, so I will spare you a weekly posting of this and only do it when there is something to show. This post is mainly just to show progress even though it may not seem like much. I, for one, can tell a difference.

I had a trim from Kym on February 16th which helped it to lay better and not poof out like crazy on the sides.

Above: A top(pish) view of my hair. And a little bit of my not-so-clean room.

I've had some discouragement lately but I have told myself not to chicken out. Who knows? I may hate it when I get it to the length I've wanted, but I don't want to regret not doing it. So, to all you nonbelievers and naysayers, I say Let me do it and see for myself.

Above: A front view. And a weird smile. Not sure what I am doing in this picture.

There you have it. Until next time!

Operation: Rapunzel Week 2

I am following one of my New Year's Resolutions and growing out my hair. This will be the third time I have attempted such a thing. The last time I tried I got the farthest I have ever gotten and then wimped out. So, to keep myself from repeating that I am going to keep track of the progress on a weekly basis.

This may bore you all, but I am going to post a picture of myself every week so you can all see the progress and keep me from chickening out and cutting it.

I have dubbed this whole thing Operation: Rapunzel. Yes, I know Rapunzel is a girl so it doesn't really make sense, but I didn't want to name it Operation: Fabio.

So here goes:

You can't see my hair very well in this picture but I'm too lazy to take a picture of myself right now. But you get the idea of my starting point. It has actually been two weeks since my last haircut. My friend, Kym, is going to help me in this operation. Our goal is something along these lines:

Not that I necessarily want to look like Hugh Jackman, but I do like his hair in this picture. This is the look I have wanted to do for years now. I better do it while I still have hair. haha!

So let the operation commence!

Brand New Old Me

I wish I had taken a before and after picture. I grew out my hair over the summer (probably worst time to do that because it's hot but it's Idaho and never really gets too hot here) and it was long. I had it flipping up around my ears and in the back and my curls were going wild.

Today I had it cut off back to what I usually do. Short and trim and clean. It feels good but it is sad to see the curls go away.
